Café LeBlanc – Persona 5
Café LeBlanc is the main hangout in Persona 5, located in Yongen-Jaya and run by absolute legend and father figure, Sojiro Sakura, who also happens to be a master of minding his own business. The café is known for its unique curry and coffee combo, and has a whole wall of blends on offer for discerning coffee fans. It probably smells amazing with its fresh ground coffee mingling with curry’s rich spice blends, and solidifies itself as a great date spot with its warm lighting and cozy feel.
The Gold Saucer – Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth gave the Gold Saucer the glow-up of all time, feeling more sprawling and alive than the PS1 classic edition. On top of the various squares with chocobo racing, the theatre, the gondola, haunted hotel, and arcade games, the new Gold Saucer adds gift shops, elaborate dance shows, an improved arena hosting exciting combat tournaments, an immersive VR theatre experience, even MORE arcade games, and my personal favourite: the Skywheel date that gives riders a breathtaking view of the park and an elaborate fireworks show. Square Enix really raised the bar on what the Gold Saucer could be, and these brand new elements are what ultimately earned it a spot on this list compared to other prospective date locations across the series (and there are MANY great ones).
Manoria Village Windmill – Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter
One reason I moved to the Canadian Maritimes is my love of a good sea view. In Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter, Manoria Village is famous for a few things that are right up my alley: its seafood, its lunchboxes, and its large windmill that overlooks the ocean. It’s my favourite among the places that I, as Estelle, totally didn’t date my not-brother during the game (it’s complicated), and lunchboxes/takeout by the sea is an ideal date idea that I’ve enjoyed several times with my husband across real-world locales like Peggy’s Cove, Eastern Passage, and Prince Edward Island in the almost 12 years we’ve been together.
The Millennial Fair – Chrono Trigger
The Millennial Fair from Chrono Trigger was among the first locations that came to mind for this list. It’s bright, it’s fun, it’s feel-good, there’s a bunch of mini-games to pass the time, like fighting Gato (and letting Gato serenade you, naturally), showing your strength with some bell ringing, testing your constitution with competitive drinking, and braving the Tent of Horrors. After all that, you can trade in your silver points for prizes to bag yourself some mementos to take home after the date is done.
The Normandy – Mass Effect
My husband pitched The Normandy from the Mass Effect series as a ‘car date, but better!’ and I must say, he’s got a point. If you and your date are die-hard sci-fi fans, then the Normandy’s your doorway to an awesome date. Take a cruise from planet to planet, sail the stars and take in some unforgettable close-up views of nebulas and star systems, and then kick back in your quarters for some in-space Netflix and chill (if people still say that).
Toussaint – The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
This one’s for the foodies. In the world of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Toussaint is wine country and is steeped in history, at that, offering couples a deeply textured culture to explore together while enjoying their fill of fine food and vintages. What’s more, there’s no end of sprawling green fields, mountain vistas, and fascinating architecture (like Beauclair Palace) to appreciate, and horseback really is the best way to appreciate it all. Toussaint is the total package… and the upcoming Witcher 4 news feels like the perfect excuse to replay 3 and pay it another visit.
Destiny Islands – Kingdom Hearts
Last up are the Destiny Islands, fresh from the very start of the Kingdom Hearts saga. Though we don’t get to see much of the islands beyond the tutorial of Kingdom Hearts and a handful of cutscenes throughout the series, it does look like there’s a community to explore beyond the areas where Sora and friends spend their time hanging out. Even without that, though, there’s still that gorgeous white sand beach bay to wander, a shining sea to swim in, and the chance to express your devotion to that special someone by sharing a paopu fruit in the pink light of a perfect sunset, or while watching the stars.
