Tails by the Foxfire’s Top 6 Cat Game Rundown of 2026 in Collaboration with DevCats

Cats deserve more than just an international day: they deserve a forever home. Devcats is an indie studio based out of Brazil who promotes themselves as “6 rescued cats makin’ biscuits and cat themed games, while raising awareness on adoption and rescue” and makes their mission to “raise awareness about cats and encourage the adoption of felines through our games.” DevCats’ site showcases these cats and their personalities front and centre, and you’re probably familiar with these 6 sweethearts if you’ve played DevCats’ games such as Flats Full of Cats, where an adorable kitty sees you off with a message when you close the game.

Another project by DevCats (and the heart of this article) is the Cat Awareness Feline Sale: an annual game sale intended “to celebrate cats and spread the love for felines, among our fellow cat games developers, who make cats the purrfect companion in our gaming journey (as well as in real life too!).”

It is our absolute pleasure to be among the content creators chosen to feature this event, and we’d like to give a big thank you to DevCats for generously providing us with 6 game keys for the occasion! We’ll be updating this page daily with a new title for the remainder of the event, which runs until the 17th on Steam and has over 400 fantastic cat-related titles for you to choose from!

Cat Rescue Facts: Why are Incentives Like the Cat Awareness Feline Sale so Important?

According to the World Animal Foundation (WAF), 5.8 million animals are surrendered to shelters every year and only 4.2 million are adopted. These numbers are just for America, and point to a continually increasing shelter population who need veterinary care, food, comfort, and housing. By raising awareness about cat rescue, adoption, and wellness, events like DevCats’ Cat Awareness Feline Sale remind us that shelters are overrun with furry friends in need, and to support reputable charities and shelters so they can afford the food, medicine, spaying/neutering, manpower, and utilities required to keep the cats in their care safe and healthy while they search for their furever home.

In good news, advocates like DevCats, non-profit organizations like the WAF, and loving owners adopting from shelters are having an impact! WAF reports that in America, euthanization rates fell by several thousand from last year. It’s our sincere hope that with sustained effort, that number will soon be 0.

DevCats’ Cat Awareness Feline Sale highlights some of the joy and wonder that can be present when you have a good cat in your life, and it’s a wonder we know well, as the Foxfire is home to two! While we can’t showcase all the moments of joy, bewilderment, hilarity and love that our two pets have given us, what we can do is share with you some of the benefits that cats provide that you might not be aware of.

According to the Human Animal Bond Research Institute (HABRI), cats can:

1. Lower the likelihood of asthma and allergies if young children are exposed
2. Improve heart health
3. Be a valuable companion for neurodivergence
4. Improve healing in humans, according to some research!
5. Be invaluable for mental health and emotional support: topics we at the Foxfire are also very passionate about

1. Flats Full of Cats by DevCats

We’re kicking things off with a game by DevCats themselves, Flats Full of Cats: a hidden-object game where you search for tiny cats and secret items hidden in themed apartments, each with three puzzle rooms to sort through. So far I’ve played the Police, Paleontologist, and Scientist rooms on Normal mode and adored every second of it, right down to the hidden Chrono Trigger & Superman references in the science room. Flats Full of Cats was exactly the game I needed to help me feel better after a tiring day of work, and each room is overflowing with painstakingly-drawn details. At least one room had up to 50 of those uniquely designed little cats wreaking havoc around the place in true Borrowers movie fashion, filling the image with life and chaos while a relaxing soundtrack looped in the background. DevCats also very generously provided the Foxfire team with keys for some of Flats Full of Cats’ DLC: Bugs & Bolts, Capes & Curses, Gold & Candles, and Stars & Oysters, which we can’t wait to jump into next!

2. Aether & Iron by Seismic Squirrel

Next up is Aether & Iron by Seismic Squirrel: a deeply immersive narrative tactical RPG set in an alternative decopunk version of 1930’s New York, and with a decorated team of writers from across hit titles like Mass Effect, Far Cry, and Sovereign Syndicate. In Aether & Iron, you play as Gia: a smuggler tasked with babysitting Dr. Nellie Reinhardt; a job that sounds simple on the surface, but Gia knows better. In Aether & Iron, you’ll be treated to a richly textured story that’s fully voice acted by a talented cast, and you’ll make decisions that will change the course of conversations and events. Some conversation topics will have skill checks attached, which you can fail if your skill points aren’t high enough and luck isn’t on your side, which can also have significant consequences. Take on jobs, smuggle contraband, customize your cars, and take part in turn-based tactical combat by cleverly positioning your car and taking out enemies one by one with Gia’s expert shooting skills.
